No stage, no audience
This portrait project arose from a special encounter. Fany Kammerlander, a musician, and I, a photographer, met in the rural backcountry of the Côte d’Azur—far away from the stage, the audience, and expectations. The warm winter sun and the peaceful surroundings created an environment that allowed us to concentrate on our work.

Fany played the cello, and I listened. Her music was part of the moment and influenced my pace, my gaze, and my decisions behind the camera. At the same time, a quiet trust developed between us, which allowed me to photograph closely and attentively.

As a musician, Fany has a strong, calm presence. She is very much in tune with herself and at the same time open to the situation. This attitude shaped our collaboration. The aim was to take photos that arose from the moment – carried by music, concentration, and mutual respect.

The rural setting and the soft, Mediterranean winter light supported this way of working. Everything was reduced and clear. The connection between hearing and seeing, between musician and photographer, thus became part of the images.
What remains are photographs from a special encounter between musician and photographer, carried by music and winter light.
